Clare Boothe Luce once said “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
How I wish more fundraisers grasped the concept of simple. This stuff isn’t rocket science: love your donors, let them know what their gifts are accomplishing, and thank them profusely. Longtime readers know that I recommend a bare minimum of 12 touch points a year, including direct mail and email. “But what do we say?” I’ll hear. How about a simple ‘thank you?’
Here’s a terrific example from Preemptive Love Coalition, “a global movement of peacemakers changing the way we engage the world’s most polarizing conflicts by confronting fear with acts of love.”
This simple thank you email lets me know that Preemptive Love will be celebrating their donors this November. No call to action, no donate button, just a simple heartfelt thank you that lets me know I’m appreciated.
You lean in, love anyway, and remake the world.
Well done.
